Since 2011, Matthias Edel works in the Renewable Energies business unit at the German Energy Agency (dena). As Project Director, he is responsible for all bioenergy activities within the unit, lea-ding national and international projects, campaigns and initiatives in the renewable energy sector. A special focus of his activities lies on biomethane. Thus, he coordinates the “biogaspartner” platform, an international campaign bringing together market actors and policy makers focusing on biogas grid feed-in. Also, he is responsible for the “biogasregister” project, an internet platform facilitating bio-methane proof of origin and quality criteria certificates. In 2015, he initiated the first European Bio-methane Conference, a platform dedicated to all issues relating to biomethane production and utiliza-tion. Other fields of activity include energy policy consulting on national and EU-level, market entry strategies for renewable energy companies at home and abroad as well as political and public affairs.
Matthias Edel studied economics and geography in Mannheim and Heidelberg. Before joining dena, he worked as a research associate for the German Biomass Research Centre in Leipzig.
